Subject: File System Compression for http on Server 8.5.3
Feedback Type: Problem
Product Area: Domino Server
Technical Area: Functionality
Platform: Windows
Release: 8.5.3
Reproducible: Always

Note to future troubleshooters:

We have *.swf files for publications under the domino/hmtl directory. I had to get rid of gzip compression on them because of a bug in Chrome.

In an internet web site document, there's two places for gzip compression: one for File System files (i.e. those under domino / html) at the bottom of the Configuration Tab, and a second for database served up pages and files at the bottom of the Domino web engine tab.

In the File System compression area (bottom of Configuration tab), there's a field for what types of files to exclude, and it's there that I tried to exclude flash files. I copied (from a web page) and pasted in the file type: application/x-shockwave-flash . Darned if it didn't keep compressing the swf files anyway. I was on the verge of having to give up, call it a bug, and turn off compression on all File System files, when I realized that, from copying and pasting it in, there was a space at the end of "application/x-shockwave-flash ", and there's no @Trim on that field for some bizarre reason. The space wasn't apparent because of line wrap etc in that field and I'd put it at the end of the default values that were already there.

As soon as I got rid of that space, and restarted the whole domino server, bingo bango, it worked.

So watch out for the lack of @trim in that exclusion field. There's a couple other fields in various server config docs as well that you have to watch for this lack of @trim
