doesn't "work". They asked me to telnet to four of their mail servers, and all four returned the same result, and I know that I did it correctly. I even telnetted from the mail server and from a computer that was not even on our network. Same result.

I got the same response for all four of their servers. This is why I don't believe the issue is ours.
The did finally answer me, a week since my last request for an update, to say that it's been escalated back to someone. I don't think they have a clue.
However, I was going to go to that website you suggested and I needed an email address to test with. So I have a database which will search my log for any specific string I say (in either mail routing, miscellaeous, or replication) and it appears that as of 9am this morning (which was 3.5 hours after they advised they were escalating), mail is starting to route again. I'll have to see if this is an anomaly.
