Hi all,
Most probably a network issue, but this only affects Notes connectivity in our organisation. We have two servers
Server A - windows 2003 Server, Standard Edition, SP1, 32-bit, Domino 8.5.1 FP2
Server B - windows 2003 Server R2, Standard Edition SP2, 32-bit, Domino 8.5.1 FP3
Server A is our older server and was earmarked for decommission. Server B is on new hardware in the same rack going through same switch in our server room. Six months ago we migrated all users to Server B which was fine (all users were on Win XP). Recently, our helpdesk has been rolling out Windows 7 and randomly we are seeing a few users' Notes connectivity issues from client to Server B only. Connections to Server A are not affected. Notes can connect to Server B but is so slow (5+ mins to open mail db) that users are unable to work. As randomly as users are affected (which could be for a few days or weeks), the problem then goes away only to then affect someone else. The only workaround is to change their connection document for Server B to passthru Server A and then to periodically change them back to see if the problem has gone away.
Performing a trace from Notes client directly to both servers shows fast connection to Server A with a long delay while connecting to Server B. Using passthru, the only delay is while seeking permission to use passthru from Server A, so fine. Using the NOTESConnect tool to connect over port 1352 shows same fast connection to both servers.
No doubt a network/Windows 7 issue, it is just affecting the Notes client and therefore seen in our organisation as yet another 'Notes problem', which is undoubtedly helping towards sealing the fate of an ever increasingly unpopular application within my company.
Would anyone have an idea where to look in windows 7 or know of any diagnostic tools we could use? Any suggestions as to why this only affects Notes client would be welcomed as I am running out of explanations. Myself and our network guy are stumped on this!
Thanks in advance,
Michael
