... MS Office uses MAPI (32-bit, last I checked) to deal with email.

Frankly I was just suggesting Word to give you an initial cut at the HTML. If you've already got the HTML, you should be good to go.

Aside from all the other issues you could run into using MAPI, there's the 32/64 bit issue: @the very least the two products have to be running the same bit size.

I haven't run a mail merge through Word in years, so I'm not sure what else you'll run into.
