Some suggestions

First, take a look at Chris Blatnick's blog, http://www.interfacematters.com/

He has been presenting at Lotusphere for years on UI design. Especially the entries from 2006-2008 should be useful for you.

I would also look at Scott Good's presentation from Lotusphere 2011. I know that he recently moved, and his server seems to be down at the moment.
The link should be http://www.scottgood.com/jsg/blog.nsf/d6plinks/SGOD-825P78 when the server works again.

I have some older presentations stored somewhere, I will see if I can dig them up.

Otherwise just look at other (good) applications and see what makes them look good.

I have a few screenshots showing form design on my blog, especially in this article series: http://blog.texasswede.com/how-to-write-better-code-in-notesdomino/
