If you get back an OOO right away chances are you running OOO as a service. A quick way of double checking is to see if you can set OOO with date and time of when you will be out. If you can then it is a service.

Unfortunately you must have a server set as one or the other so giving up as a service is not a good idea.

To make changes to a mail template best to take a copy of the IBM stock template and change the name of the master template name and then change the mail file based on master template.

All the code you will need to do is in that one agent.

The only other thing I can suggest is to contact IBM and see if they opened up the API that you can hook into the OOO service to change what they do and add custom code. This would be likely c code.
