Questions

You say you're a beginner at LS.
Are you looking to get into LS and want some pointers on how to think about the problem?
Are you just looking for a quick fix to get out of a hole and don't plan to do any more development work?
Is this a time critical problem?
Is it mission critical?

Everything you describe is totally possible. The exact code is hard to write since we don't know how you're mail files are structured so anything someone writes for you is likely to be incomplete or incorrect.

If you want some pointers, I've put some pseudo-code below you can use to learn how to write LS. When you get stuck, come back with debug information related to what's working and what's failed and we can assist.

If you don't plan to do this for real and you just need something quick, you may want to just hook up with consultant and get them to write the script. This also provides you some cover if your mail files get bombed by the code...$$ solves problems. A consultant approach is also good if you're time or mission critical; you don't want to be mucking about with mail files if you're not sure what you're doing.

Pseudo-code
Open a text file to hold the results
Get top level directory containing mail files
Get first mail file
Open view
Get first mail doc
Get embedded object(s)
Get size
If size > cutoff, write identifying information to the text file.
Get next doc until done
Get next mail db until done
Close text file.
Either leave file on the server and go get it or email it to someone.
