Canceling a meeting does not "delete" it

Just to be clear about something. When a Cancel notice arrives it will automatically be applied to the existing entry on the users calendar. That will automatically free up the user for that time without needing the user to actually open the notice. Depending on the users preferences the canceled entry may still be ghosted on the calendar or not.

The cancel notice will never just delete the actual docs from the invites calendar. Only the invitee can do that. That allows them to keep any notes or changes they have made to their copy of the meeting.

Cancelled entries may disappear from some views but they are not actually deleted. You can always find all calendar entries no matter their status in the Grouped Entries view.

Depending on the users preferences they may or may not see Information Updates in their Inbox. Most users set up their preferences to not show them to keep their Inbox clutter down. The typical user is configured to only see Invites and Reschedules but not Info updates in their Inbox. Cancels are always visible so that users are not surprised and try to attend a non-existent meeting. We do not remove any pending invites or reschedules from the Inbox when the cancel notice is delivered; we just update the Calendar views only.
