Works in Outlook

I just did a quick check and 'Notes://server.../x.nsf' works with outlook.

Is the link in Hotmail an actual link? You can run into issues if the mail is received in a system that converts rich text to text.

Also, is your Hotmail client able to 'see' the destination server? In other words is there any kind of firewall in the way that could be causing a problem?
