Some ideas

Embed the style guide in the doc. I've done this by using a tabbed design where one tab is the actual 'doc' and the other is help. If you make the help tab the first, then it's in their face when they create a doc.

Use pop-ups where relevant. This is nice because you can display only what's relevant for the field/section/part of the doc that they're working on. You can use standard pop-ups or layout regions.

Enforce data entry rules. Depending on what the guidelines are, you may be able to prevent users from doing <whatever>
