maybe themes are disabled in the Beta?

so I did it - and nothing changed - I then went into Preferences and changed the theme thinking I would have to "jumpstart" it in some softwareish way - but none of the themes work at all - I change theme selection in Appearance and nothing happens - so the mystery continues - I sure miss my RED!
