Yeas and no - here is what I have found -

So my initial finding with the notes.css file may have had some user error involved in the procedure used to modify it - but my results after further mods are the same. So I have tried several different tools and methods to "re-compress" the jar file after modification - but it seems that no matter what I do the file size is mismatched from the original - which normally I would not think is an issue - but as a result during the startup check (that bar across your screen with a % completeness) takes longer than usual and notes2w.exe never launches , which in turn means I never get a UI launched - If I put the original file back in place all works fine. So my conclusion is that there is a checksum in the code for this jar file - which also means someone really really does not want end users modifying it - still miss my red inbox!
