We have 2 Domino 8.5.3 servers running on Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V VMs on a single Server 2012 R2 host. I have been "administering" the Domino servers for many years, but am new to virtualization. In the past, when I had to reboot the physical servers that Domino was running on, I would first go into the console and shut down the Domino server there, and then once shut down, I would reboot the Windows server.
Now, from what I understand, if I want to reboot the host that the 2 VMs are running on, Hyper-V will simply hibernate them for the reboot, and then bring them back up when the host server comes back up.
However, we have a new consultant helping out who wants to have the host shut down the Windows server in the VM when shutting down the host. He says that Windows should shut down the Domino server service cleanly when Windows shuts down. Admittedly, he is more accustomed to working with MS Exchange rather than IBM Domino.
Is this the case? Do you not have to shut down the Domino server first when shutting down the host Windows server? Hope this is clear.
I would appreciate greatly any help that could be provided today - there is a planned host shutdown by the consultant at the end of the day and I want to ensure it is done correctly.
