Subject: Weird server restart sequence
Feedback Type: Question
Product Area: Domino Server
Technical Area: Administration
Platform: Windows
Release: 8.5.3
Reproducible: Not applicable

Our server locked up this morning and required an OS level restart to bring it back on line. No big deal, we've seen it before and the reboot is the way to go.

I was looking at my log and I see something new.

The start/stop times for the logs look like this:
7:36 - 7:58 (normal operation)
7:58 - blank (server died here)
8:43 - 8:50 (the restart)
8:45 - blank (looks like a second restart)
8:50 - 8:52 (back to normal)
The rest look normal.

The log that goes from 8:43 - 8:50 is very typical for a restart. The first few entries are:
05/29/2015 08:43:16 AM Recovery Manager: Restart Recovery complete. (165/0 databases needed full/partial recovery)
05/29/2015 08:43:16 AM Trigger Happy: v0.8.0.1 initialized.
05/29/2015 08:43:16 AM Trigger Happy: 191 Trigger(s) loaded.
05/29/2015 08:43:17 AM Index update process started:
05/29/2015 08:43:17 AM Event Monitor started
05/29/2015 08:43:17 AM Warning: All Domino Domain Monitoring probes are disabled resulting in the loss of valuable diagnostic information. Please configure DDM probes in events4.nsf. Assess DDM reports in ddm.nsf.
05/29/2015 08:43:18 AM License tracker: Initialization complete
05/29/2015 08:49:15 AM Lotus Domino (r) Server (64 Bit) started, running Release 8.5.3FP1
And continues with normal restart/recovery stuff.
Note the time stamps on the entries.

The 8:45 - blank is short and also contains similar output as the 'real' reboot from 8:45:
05/29/2015 08:45:12 AM Recovery Manager: Restart Recovery complete. (635/1054 databases needed full/partial recovery)
05/29/2015 08:45:12 AM Trigger Happy: v0.8.0.1 initialized.
05/29/2015 08:45:12 AM Trigger Happy: 191 Trigger(s) loaded.
05/29/2015 08:45:12 AM Index update process started:
05/29/2015 08:45:12 AM Event Monitor started
05/29/2015 08:45:12 AM Warning: All Domino Domain Monitoring probes are disabled resulting in the loss of valuable diagnostic information. Please configure DDM probes in events4.nsf. Assess DDM reports in ddm.nsf.
05/29/2015 08:45:13 AM License tracker: Initialization complete
The file stops here.

So the server is running and seems fine. I'm just curious why I'm seeing this weird 'extra start oops, never mind' document. Any ideas?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Doug
