All this lucid discussion has a "use by" date though.

Spamming is a crime (well, not literally in some jurisdictions yet though this is changing). DNSRBL and other anti spam techniques are basically a sort of forensic science that has to evolve and adapt to match the techniques of the criminals (spammers).

A year ago I would not have advocated using Spamcop to block, but just to tag. SPEWS didn't exist (or had not been around long). Who had heard of spamming via HTTP CONNECT proxies, or cascading open proxies and open relays to obfuscate the true origin of spam further?

Come to think of it, a year ago the volume of spam was perhaps half what it is now.

As the criminals' technology improves, so must the victims' (there are no police on the Internet).

Please do read through what I and others have written, should you need it in the future, but do bear in mind this rapid evolution of spam and anti-spam. Sort your searches in descending order by date and look at the articles at the top of the list first.

:-)
