Using LVM sounds like a great idea, actually. By snapshotting a volume, I'll not have to worry about open files changing halfway through the backup, as I'll be backing up an unchanging file system.
One big advantage is that I'll be able to get *known good* backup images without needing to invest in expensive backup packages that would, other than the one feature of Domino integration, be extreme overkill for my needs.
