RE: swaping Domino servers

Domino Server All Releases Windows NT, Linux - RedHat

I'm not sure it's a supported option...but I've thought about doing it myself. Here's what I'd do: Copy the 'Data' folder over to the new server...make sure that it resides in the same path where you will be installing domino. Then install R5 (the same version or higher) on the new server. Start up the server and see if it works...I'm pretty sure it should because all the executables and dll's are in a different directory--the data directory should just have all your databases, etc. If that works and the server starts up and runs, you can then upgrade to 6.5. I've never done this on a server, but it shouldn't waste more than 30 minutes of your time if it fails...and if it works you've saved yourself the trouble of pointing all your users to a new server or trying to fool the new server into thinking it's really the old server.
