RE: Anyone heard of a true notes client for pocket pc? ~Fred Chuveluplopakoi 24.Oct.03 06:38 PM a Web browser Notes Client All ReleasesAll Platforms
I'm just starting down this path and have done some research, but everytime I look I just get more questions and not a lot of good answers. I will share what I have discovered so far, hopefully it will help you some.
There is no PocketPC Notes client, your options are to either store the Notes applications locally on the handhelds or to use a web interface. Given the way our sales force is using the technology I think we will probably opt to web-enable everything. I have done a bit of research but have spent the vast amount of my time working to get 50+ applications updated for web access.
If you want to store the applications locally most of the sites I have read point to a product called Pylon Pro. This will convert Notes apps to something you can download to the PocketPC and later synch with a Notes client. Everything I have read about it has been positive, and I have requested a demo CD from them so I can try it myself.
There is also a technology called Domino Offline Services (DOLS), but I'm not sure if that is available for PocketPC. My understanding is it lets you access Notes data via a web browser and download it to use offline, then you can synchronize it back with the server.
Another option could be Domino Everyplace. So far all I know is it has something to do with letting users access Notes data from handheld devices.
There are probably other things you could do, but those are the ones that seemed to be the easiest when I started looking. Hopefully someone else will jump in and give some input that will help both of us.
