RE: Wanted: Lotus Domino Middleware Solution on AS/400

After reading the redbook AS/400 supports LS:DO, but you can't access ODBC using it. I am about ready to call Lotus since I can't get a straight answer. See below.

Chapter 6. LotusScript Extension for Lotus Domino Connectors

A new LotusScript Extension called LotusScript Extension for Lotus Domino
Connectors (LSX LC) is available by Lotus with Domino Release 4.6.3. LSX LC
allows programmatic access to data external to Domino applications.
LotusScript provides an integral programming interface to Lotus Notes. The
LotusScript Extension for Lotus Domino Connectors enhances the power of
Notes by extending its scripting capabilities to data outside of Notes.
LSX LC is based on the Lotus Domino Connectors, a new technology announced
by Lotus in 1998, which extends the capabilities of Domino applications to access
external data. It also makes the coding more independent of the type of data
source.

Lotus Domino Connectors, LSX LC and DECS (described in Chapter 9, “Domino
Enterprise Connection Services” on page 249) are available on the AS/400
system inside Domino for AS/400 releases 4.6.3 and 5.0.
Note: Lotus plans to provide the same set of programming interfaces for Java.
6.1 Overview of the LotusScript Extension for Lotus Domino Connectors
Lotus Domino Connectors provide access to a wide variety of DBMS products,
ODBC, the platform file system, Enterprise resource planning systems, and
transaction processing systems.

The LotusScript Extension for Lotus Domino Connectors (LSX LC) extends these
connectors to LotusScript.

The programming model is independent of the individual Connector. This
eliminates the need to learn each individual system, while at the same time
allowing experienced users to access the individual features of a specific system.
For example, through Lotus Connectors, Notes and Web applications have the
ability to retrieve and act upon data within agents, during document events, or at
the click of a button using the same core programming interface that the Lotus
Domino Connector used.
The first release of the LSX LC (included in Domino and Notes 4.6.3a) provides
access to the following Lotus Connectors:

• DB2/UDB
• Oracle (*)
• Sybase (*)
• EDA/SQL (*)
• File System (of the operating system where Domino runs)
• Domino/Notes
• ODBC (*)

The Lotus Connectors marked with an asterisk (*) are not available on the AS/400
system.

Notice that the LotusScript Extension for Lotus Domino Connectors can be used
alone or in conjunction with the Domino Enterprise Connection Services (DECS).
