RE: EasySync 4.2 -- SHOOT ME!!
~Emile Xanfoozennivu 27.Dec.02 01:41 AM a Web browser
General 6.0 Windows XP

Yep, I just spent 2 hours messing around with it & it is not an "intuitive" install. For the most part, I've got it working now ... but it was a battle. Here's what I learned:

1) I'm using a WinXP box with a multi-user Notes 6 setup, and the box also has Notes 5 installed on it. During EasySync installation, an error box told me that "notes was not installed" on my machine. However, when I pressed "OK", I was prompted to select a NOTES.INI file. By default the Notes 5 file was selected. For a Notes 6 multi-user install, you need to "unhide" the user folders in "documents and settings" and browse to select the appropriate NOTES.INI file for the user you are setting up.

2) I had to use the "settings" button in EasySync & manually configure the links to my notes databases. There were no defaults. (local address book & mail file) I had to use local databases because I could not override the "server" setting & could not browse outside my local machine.

3) I received an error when I attempted to synchronize. The error indicated that EasySync couldn't read my databases. I ran ncompact -r on my local databases to revert them to R5 format. It appears that they will open o.k. in R5 format, but not in R6 format.

4) Notes cannot be open when you try to synchronize. If Notes is open, EasySync can't access the databases.

5) I kept receiving an error every time I would try to synchronize my personal log file. I would use the "settings" button to identify the personal log database I wanted to synchronize, but that information seems to get lost every time I save the settings. I haven't managed to get this to work yet.

Obviously, more work on my part to try to figure this out, but IMHO this version is not quite ready for Prime Time.
