RE: Thick Client vs Web Client ~Keiko Cisfooterynds 21.Nov.03 03:24 AM a Web browser Applications Development All ReleasesAll Platforms
My view is that the web clients are getting better over time and that is why the Lotus products can make use of the extra capabilities, rather than the other way round.
I don't think that ultimately it is very much a question of thin or thick client. The topic of thin/thick client was a raging debate in the late 90's but there have been many other trends in the last few years to cause most vendors to "work around" the debate and push the complicated stuff that used to be handled by the thick client to another tier in the architecture.
For this reason Application Servers are now the way to go, instead of using a thick client with a web server at the back-end. Or the other way round, of using a thin client with a web server that cannot handle complicated stuff.
