Craig, er troll*,
Perhaps there's an important facet of this that you've overlooked/missed and/or refused to acknowledge (I know I missed it). Basically, NextGen and the next version of Domino are two completely different things (see here for a bit more

If you're saying this was poorly communicated, then I'm with ya. It wasn't until attending DevCon/IBM DeveloperWorks Live that I finally got it. However, the documentation is there now. Give it another read.
>>This puts the Notes/Domino that we're used to in conflict with the clear organizational direction IBM is taking. <<
Domino as you're used to using it is not going away. IBM is adding an additional way to utilize Domino (aka. NextGen). Key word--additional. NextGen is not a replacement for Domino 6. Just as important, the next major release of Domino is scheduled for 18 months from now.
>>And I don't think any amount of Beta comments would change that, or the impact that this conflict will have on what Domino becomes.<<
Most likely true. However, as Ed mentioned, this topic has been discussed there. Had you participated, perhaps you wouldn't be a step behind at this stage (in terms of awareness of the delineation between Domino 7 and NextGen).
>>But it doesn't change the long term direction that the roadmap lays out. There's a reason that Next Gen enters the highway from the WebSphere side on the 'roadmap to the future' graphic.<<
Absolutely. NextGen is a J2EE toolset. Websphere is IBM's J2EE server. Of course it enters the graphic on that side. Key point though--ALL the lanes are on the roadmap to the future. There is nothing in the strategy that says you must integrate with the Websphere lane, or that you must use the NextGen capabilities. Business needs/requirements will determine that, SMB or enterprise.
Hope that helps.

*BTW, it isn't the fact that you're concerned about Domino's future that has people calling you a troll. It's your complete disregard for facts, your continual inaccurate pronouncements, combined with the implication that anyone unwilling to completely agree with you must be severely mentally deficient (or at least 'unreasonable'). Puleeze.
