Anyone remember Corel? ~Justin Minluternivu 3.Oct.02 02:58 PM a Web browser Notes Client 6.0Linux - RedHat
Corel was the last corporation to take a major stab at the Linux desktop as a money-maker. Spent wads of cash porting the whole WordPerfect suite and did a custom Linux distro. That nearly cost them the whole company. A huge part of the attractiveness of Linux on the desktop is that you don't have to pay no-one nothin' nohow if'n you don't wanna. (As a server -- there's another matter. That stuff's important, don't you know.) Anyone with the temerity to charge anything more than packaging costs for Linux apps is likely to be sorry in the long run, and calling it "free software with a license fee" isn't going to change that any time soon.
