I got the same impression at the 2002 Lotusphere that Notes will be part of J2EE/Websphere. My reaction at the openning ceremony was "Ouch". Notes is an easy sell to business but Websphere is not. Websphere is relatively new. Hard to find and afford staff to support it.
The problem I see here is not the product, it's the marketing strategy. IBM should have a second marketing plan that targets Notes to SMB (Or companies who don't want to deploy another kind of server) without emphasis on Websphere. Marketing Notes and Websphere together alone will lose market share on the small business side for sure.
