The lack of support for busines apps is not the ONLY reason that Linux has not taken off as a mainstream client OS. The Open Source communities inability to define a single standard for the Linux desktop environment (Gnome/kde) or establish, embed, and promote a ubiquitous component development model are two others. And there are more (zero marketing not being the least).
Linux is not going to die because IBM (and others) do not port their Windows apps to it. Linux is not going to die, period!
Porting Notes to Linux in order to give to the anti-MS crowd an alternative is not a "good" business reason. If you consider that it would only be a matter of time before they tired of IBM costs too, I would suggest that such a port would be a "bad" business reason.
