Notes/Domino 6 and 7 Forum : Seamless Mail Upgrade does not work. Period.

I really hope that I can post a follow-up entitled "I eat my words." I don't think I'll have to ... but I will if you can prove me wrong.

I recently upgraded from Domino 5.0.11 to 6.0.2 CF1.

I have ...
- Read EVERY SINGLE R6 forum posting that has the word "seamless" in it.
- Read the Domino Admin Help on this subject.
- Read "The View" article about policies.
- Read the Domino Admin Help on policies.
- Taken the Domino 6 Admin class.
- Searched all of LDD for other documentation.

Here's the basic scoop:

I have two servers now running R6, and many, many Notes clients running R5. I have created policies for our users. The policies are working because the users I have upgraded are receiving the other Desktop policy settings (such as Bookmarks, Preferences, etc.) I have also run the Design Synopsis in the Admin client in verbose mode to make sure the policies are being applied to the users.

However, when upgrading the client from 5.0.x to 6.0.2 the user's mail file is not being upgraded to the new template. (I am using iNotes6.ntf as the new mail template.) I have followed all documentation and forum advice about configuring the Seamless upgrade ... and none of it solves the problem.

Here's a clue ... according to the Admin Help, after the client is upgraded, the first time Lotus Notes is launched the client databases are supposed to be upgraded, and then contact made with the Home Server to upgrade the mail file. In my Desktop Policy, I have it set to prompt the user to upgrade, but the user never gets prompted.

Thus, I suppose that either the contact is never being made with the Home Server, or the policy is setup incorrectly and does not realize the mail file should be upgraded.

I know that I can use the Conversion tool to update the mail file if I need to ... but that's not the optimum method for updating mail files during an upgrade rollout.

Please shoot questions and suggestions at me. I'll answer daily and post a solution if one is found.

(If it simply doesn't work, can I get a partial refund on my overpriced Domino 6 Admin class?)
