IBM: Let's milk this cash domino cow! ~Dana Chulumarflar 1.Oct.02 02:09 PM a Web browser General 6.0All Platforms
I share the sentiment in this discussion.
Last year I was forced to pay a lot more for support when IBM decided to change software subscription to software support. With R6, the pricing model is changing again, and don't let any rhetoric fool you, IBM's revenue will be increased, not decreased. Therefore, the writing is clearly illustrated in the IBM business model. Domino is now a cash generator, and more cash comes from large enterprises rather than SMB's.
Historically Domino fits best in SMB's, but that's not where the money is. Domino will be eventually phased out in favor of the large enterprise software development model J2EE. Anybody notice during the R6 install the option to include the Domino module for WAS? Strategy is clear. Maybe a limited version of WAS 5 supplied with a Domino license is a carrot for existing Domino developers, but to me it's more like a handout to keep them from dying.
