After complaints from a user who uses mozilla on linux to access his email using IMAPS on our R6.02 CF1 server (Solaris 9) about initial sessions hanging/timing out I noticed the following:
When mozilla is configured to use IMAPS on launch it connects to the configured mail server to check server capabilities.
On the server console I see the connection coming in: 08/15/2003 10:06:49 IMAP Server: aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd connected.
This session appears to hang in mozilla, when clicking the stop button it displays a messages that the server is not an IMAP 4 server.
After closing out of this dialog the user can access his mail without any problems:
08/15/2003 10:06:49 IMAP Server: aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd connected.
08/15/2003 10:07:45 IMAP Server: John Doe/ACME logged in from aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd
closing mozilla shows the user logging out and being disconnected:
08/15/2003 10:36:13 IMAP Server: John Doe/ACME logged out
08/15/2003 10:36:13 IMAP Server: aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd disconnected
08/15/2003 10:36:13 IMAP Server: aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd disconnected
But the first session is still displayed on the server console:
IMAP Server Providing service for aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd
even after the client's been shutdown for more than three days, the session still shows on the server console....
Does anybody know if this bug / 'feature' has been fixed in 6.0.2 CF2? or should I wait for 6.0.3?
(Sounds like a nice way for a denial of service waiting to happen)
Let's see how many sessions I can have open before the box dies :p
