These problems are ones that you might encounter as you add and use your instance of
IBM® Collaboration QuickStart for Social Business. You can also discover provisioning error logs and access help on the web.
Network error: Connection refused message when attempting to provision the instance
When adding your instance, even after the IBM SmartCloud control panel indicates that your instance is active, you still might need to wait as many as 30 minutes before accessing your instance. The wait time depends on the size of your instance and the availability of the data center. If you attempt to use Secure Shell (SSH) to connect to the instance before it is completely provisioned, the following error message is displayed:
Network error: Connection refused. In this case, wait a few minutes and try again.
URLs to Lotus Domino and Sametime servers must be fully qualified
When accessing the Lotus Domino server on port 80 or the Sametime community server through a browser in your instance, do not use the IP address in the URL. Instead, use the fully qualified domain name, for example http://vhost0000.site1.compute.ihost.com/webadmin.nsf.
The Lotus Domino server crashes due to heavy load of data center
If the Lotus Domino server crashes or hangs while provisioning your image, check the
Lotus®
Notes® System Diagnostic (NSD) LOG file for details about the crash. This LOG file is automatically generated when the server fails.
After checking the LOG file, do the following steps:
- Open the IBM SmartCloud control panel, and delete the image.
- Either wait until the load has decreased and provision a new instance from the same data center, or provision a new instance on an alternate data center. The IBM SmartCloud typically broadcasts warning messages when particular data centers are under a heavy load.
If an NSD LOG file is generated when using the image under normal circumstances, do the following steps:
- Restart the Lotus Domino server.
- Check to see if the image is experiencing a shortage of resources by running the top or vmstat commands. If a shortage exists, consider requesting a new instance at the Silver 64-bit level for increased memory.

Troubleshooting Lotus Domino hangs and crashes on
developerWorks®.
Editing and resetting the IPTABLES service
When using the image to develop applications, you might need to open ports in the firewall through the IPTABLES service. If the table gets cleared by mistake, do the following steps to restore and edit the settings for IPTABLES:
- Log in to IBM Collaboration QuickStart for Social Business using SSH.
- Use the sudo bash command to change authority to the root user.
- Run the following command to stop the service: service iptables stop.
- Use the vi editor to edit the /etc/sysconfig/iptables file.
- Add the following block of ports for the firewall settings from the original provisioning:
:INPUT DROP [2199:191321]
:FORWARD DROP [0:0] public key "imported-openssh-key"
:OUTPUT ACCEPT [2636:1002043]openssh-key":

IBM Connections password error after provisioning
After provisioning your instance,
you might see the following error in the
IBM Connections SystemOut.log
file in the
/local/opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/profiles/AppSrv01/logs/clusterLC_server1/ directory.
The error is caused by an expired password. As a result, the database
component of
IBM Connections does
not get configured properly during the provisioning process.
Error Message: org.springframework.jdbc.UncategorizedSQLException: SqlMapClient operation; uncategorized SQLException for SQL []; SQL state [28000]; error code [-4214]; --- The error occurred in com/ibm/lconn/profiles/internal/service/store/sqlmapdao/sql/ProfileLogin.xml. --- The error occurred while executing query. --- Check the select PROF_GUID, PROF_UID, PROF_KEY, PROF_SOURCE_UID, PROF_DISPLAY_NAME, PROF_MAIL, PROF_LAST_UPDATE, PROF_MANAGER_UID, PROF_GIVEN_NAME, PROF_SURNAME, PROF_LOGIN, PROF_TYPE, PROF_SOURCE_URL from EMPINST.EMPLOYEE where PROF_KEY in ( select PROF_KEY from EMPINST.PROFILE_LOGIN where PROF_LOGIN = ? ) . --- Check the SQL Statement (preparation failed). --- Cause: java.sql.SQLException: [jcc][t4][2012][11248][3.59.81] Connection authorization failure occurred. Reason: Password expired. ERRORCODE=-4214, SQLSTATE=28000DSRA0010E: SQL State = 28000, Error Code = -4,214
To
fix the expired password, do the following steps:
- Log in to IBM Collaboration QuickStart for
Social Business using
SSH. Use idcuser as your password.
- Enter the sudo bash command to change authority
to the root user.
- Enter the passwd db2inst1 command to update
the password for the db2inst1 user.
- Use lcsecret as your password. Ignore the
warning messages.
- Enter the passwd lcuser command to update the
password for the lcuser user.
- Use lcuser as your password. Ignore the
warning messages.
- Run the following scripts in order:
- sh /local/tools/domino_stcs/lcStatus stop
- sh /local/tools/domino_stcs/3_auto_start_tools.sh
- sh /local/tools/domino_stcs/startDmgrSync.sh
- sh /local/tools/domino_stcs/lcStatus start
- sh /local/tools/domino_stcs/syncUsers.sh
- sh /local/tools/domino_stcs/lcStatus stop
- sh /local/tools/domino_stcs/lcStatus start
Now the error is solved, and
IBM Connections is configured
properly.
If you still need additional help after doing these steps,
post an entry to the forum in the IBM Social Business Toolkit community on
Lotus Greenhouse.
Locating provisioning errors in LOG files
When provisioning a new instance or rebooting an already provisioned instance, if you encounter any errors, navigate to the
/etc/cloud/ directory and review the following log files:
- The ibm_appdev.log file logs errors when setting up IBM Lotus Domino, installing IBM Sametime, and loading the LDAP directory with Renovations users.
- The profilessync.log file logs errors when configuring IBM Connections and synchronizing the Profiles database with the Renovations users in the LDAP directory.
