SPR# JHLU5YF8PV - This fix allows Microsoft Exchange users to receive iCal attachments from Notes.

Technote Number: 1228665

Problem:
This issue was reported to Quality Engineering as SPR# JHLU5YF8PV and was
addressed in 6.5.5 and 7.0.
Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Domino Release 6.5.5 MR and 7.0 fix lists
(available at http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus):
Calendaring & Scheduling
SPR# JHLU5YF8PV - This fix allows Microsoft Exchange users to receive iCal
attachments from Notes.
Refer to the Upgrade Central site for details on upgrading Notes/Domino.
Temporary workaround:
Have Notes users sending iCal invitations change the following settings on the
Mail tabl of their Location document(s):
Set the Send Outgoing Mail entry to "Through Domino server".
Set the Format for Messages Addressed to Internet Addresses entry to "Notes
Rich Text format".
Supporting Information:
When sending an iCalendar MIME message, Lotus includes several alternative MIME
parts. Outlook "prefers" the first MIME part to be Text/Calendar. Lotus places
a copy of the iCal in a file attachment and specifies that it contains
Text/Calendar. This works fine as long as Outlook is a POP3 client.
However, when Outlook is used with Exchange, the behavior is different. When
Exchange "sees" a file attachment with Text/Calendar type, it processes it
prematurely, converts it into a scheduling message and reattaches the new
object to the message. This object is missing some necessary information for
the Notes user to act on it.
The solution prior to the fix in 6.5.5 was to change the attachment type to
Application/Octet-stream to prevent Exchange from processing the attachment and
allow users to open it manually. More >
