SPR# JGIR5JAQ2B - Fixed a problem where url links display as plain text in an iNotes Web Access client.

Technote Number: 1114566

Problem:
The following describes known behaviors, limitations, and issues regarding URL
strings and Domino Web Access:
1. URL strings in this format do not show as URL links: www.ibm.com
This is working as designed in both the Notes Client and the Domino Web Access
client. Lotus adheres to the fundamental URL standard which requires http:// in
front of the above string. Some applications shorten this string to make it
more user friendly. An enhancement request for this functionality has been
submitted to Lotus Software Quality Engineering (SPR # GPKS5EHJH7).
However, messages sent from Domino Web Access to Notes Clients WILL display the
www.ibm.com as a URL link. This inconsistency has been reported to Lotus
Software Quality Engineering (SPR # JHOD5PFLLN). Note: If a URL string
omitting the http:// in this scenario is the last text typed into a message, it
will NOT appear as a URL link in this case. This behavior has also been
reported (SPR # JHOD5PFT6S).
2. URL strings do not display as URL links in Domino Web Access for internet
messages in html format.
For example, messages created in the Notes Client and sent over SMTP will
exhibit the problem. The issue here is that URL strings in a text/HTML MIME
part of an internet message do not display as links in Domino Web Access.
Messages sent from a Notes Client to a Domino Web Access user in the same mail
domain correctly show the URL links because the message is in Notes Rich Text
format. As stated in #1, this applies only to URL strings beginning with
http://.
This issue has been reported (SPR # JHOD5PFLEM) requesting that URL strings
starting with http:// appear as URL Links in text/html messages.
3. URL strings do not display as URL links in Domino Web Access for internet
messages in plain text format.
Plain text messages do not have special formatting. However, some mail clients
will display these strings as URL links in plain text messages. This issue was
reported to Lotus Software Quality Engineering (SPR # JGIR5JAQ2B) and was fixed
in Domino 6.0.2. URL strings beginning with http:// display as links starting
with Domino 6.0.2.

Security
SPR# JGIR5JAQ2B - Fixed a problem where url links display as plain text in an
iNotes Web Access client.
When troubleshooting URL links, it is important to determine the format of the
message. From the mail file view in the Notes Client, right-click the document
and select Document Properties. In the InfoBox that appears, switch to the
second tab to view the field properties, and select the Body field.
- a Body field with Data Type: Rich Text will not show this problem. It is a
Notes formatted message (CD format) using Notes Rich Text. Messages created by
Domino Web Access and routed using a Notes address will retain this format.
- a Body field with Data Type: Mime Part will exhibit this problem. It is a
MIME formatted message and likely contains separate Body fields corresponding
to each MIME part.
MIME parts with Content-Type = text/plain show the issue reported in SPR #
JGIR5JAQ2B (issue #3 above, which is fixed in 6.0.2).
MIME parts with Content-Type = text/html show the issue reported in SPR #
JHOD5PFLEM (issue #2 above).
- when troubleshooting Notes messages, you must take into account any
conversion that took place. If a message is sent from Notes to a Domino Web
Access user in the same domain, the format remains in Notes Rich Text and the
problem does not occur.
- when testing #2 and #3 above using a Notes Client, you must remember to
specify the correct format for the internet messages. The Notes client User
Preference called 'Internet Mail Format' (under File --> Preferences --> User
Preferences --> expand Mail pane --> Internet pane) determines the format for
the internet message.
- When set to "Plain Text Only", the MIME part is created with Content-Type =
text/plain.
- When set to "HTML Only", the MIME part is created with Content-Type =
text/html.
- When set to "HTML and Plain Text", separate MIME parts are created for each,
and Domino Web Access displays the part in text/html format.
