SPR# SVRO6BMU2V - Attachments were losing their icon in release 6.5.4. Sometimes a windows getfileinfo function truncates the path string we pass to it, so they don't have the filename to correctly get the icon. We now strip out the full path and just give windows the filename. If it is truncated, we go back the old way of doing it. This regression was introduced in 6.5.4.

Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Domino Release 6.5.5 MR fix list (available at
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus):
Editor
SPR# SVRO6BMU2V - Attachments were losing the icon in release 6.5.4. Sometimes
a Windows getfileinfo function truncates the path string passed to it, so the
filename path is not there to correctly get the icon. Now, the full path is
stripped and Windows has the file name. If it is truncated, it reverts to the
old way of displaying. This regression was introduced in 6.5.4.
SPR# SVRO6BMU2V was also addressed in Notes/Domino 7.
Workaround for prior versions:
Move the file to a folder with a shorter path on the system before attaching it
in Notes.
A cumulative client hotfix (CCH) is available for Notes Client 6.5.4 that fixes
the issue reported in SPR# SVRO6BMU2V. Since hotfixes do not receive the
extensive testing that maintenance releases and fix packs do, customers are
encouraged to implement workarounds or deploy a release containing the fix.
However, if workarounds are not possible or applicable and you still need a
fix, contact IBM Technical Support to request the CCH containing the fix for
this issue. More >
