Overview

As of Notes Traveler 9.0 the Nokia Symbian and Windows Mobile clients are no longer included with the install package. These devices are approaching end of life in the market place, however they are still supported for use with Notes Traveler. If setting up a new server and wish to provision new Nokia Symbian or Windows Mobile devices please follow the steps below.

Prerequisites

Notes Traveler version 9.0 or later must already be installed.

Notes Traveler version 9.0 can be found on Passport Advantage. Search by part number:

Important Notes

1. It is not necessary to install this client package if upgrading a server from a previous version that contained the Nokia and WM clients. During upgrade, existing client software is not removed from the system.
2. If running a Notes Traveler HA pool, it is only necessary to perform these steps on one of the servers in the pool. The clients will automatically be made available on all servers in the pool.
3. It is not possible to remove the clients once installed without dropping the database. See Preventing Download section below for more details.
4. To manager client levels or check if this version is already installed use the Client Manager feature of the Web Administration interface, generally found at:

To download go to Fix Central and select the appropriate package for your platform.

Installation Instructions for Windows

Estimated Time: 15 minutes

1. Do NOT stop the server.
2. Unzip NTS_Legacy_Clients_Win.zip to a temporary location.
3. Unzip the desired client package (Nokia_8.5.3.3.201302131010.zip or WM_8.5.3.3.201209172100.zip) to DominoDataDir\domino\html
4. On the domino console, enter:
   
   tell traveler client refresh full
   
5. The Nokia Symbian and/or WM clients are now available for downloaded from the Notes Traveler server, generally at this URL:
   
   http(s)://yourhostname/traveler

Installation instructions for Linux

Estimated Time: 15 minutes

1. Do NOT stop the server.
2. Untar NTS_Legacy_Clients_Linux.tar to a temporary location.
3. Untar the desired client package (Nokia_8.5.3.3.201302131010.tar or WM_8.5.3.3.201209172100.tar) to DominoDataDir/domino/html
4. Change owner, group and permisions as needed on these directories to match existing permissions in DominoDataDir/domino/html/travelerclients directory.
   
   DominoDataDir/domino/html/travelerclients/Installer/nokia
   DominoDataDir/domino/html/travelerclients/Traveler/nokia
   
   and/or
   
   DominoDataDir/domino/html/travelerclients/Installer/wm
   DominoDataDir/domino/html/travelerclients/Traveler/wm
   
5. On the domino console, enter:
   
   tell traveler client refresh full
   
6. The Nokia Symbian and/or WM clients are now available for downloaded from the Notes Traveler server, generally at this URL:
   
   http(s)://yourhostname/traveler

Installation instructions for IBM i

Estimated Time: 15 minutes

1. Do NOT stop the server.
2. Unzip NTS_Legacy_Clients_IBMi.zip to a temporary location.
3. Unzip the desired client package (Nokia_8.5.3.3.201302131010.zip or WM_8.5.3.3.201209172100.zip) to DominoDataDir/domino/html
4. Change owner of the new files and directories to QNOTES.
   
   From an IBM i command line, run the following command to start the QShell Interpreter:
   
   QSH
   
   Navigate to the traveler client directory:
   
   cd /domino/html
   
   Change the owner to QNOTES:
   
   chown -R QNOTES travelerclients
   
5. On the domino console, enter:
   
   tell traveler client refresh full
   
6. The Nokia Symbian and/or WM clients are now available for downloaded from the Notes Traveler server, generally at this URL:
   
   http(s)://yourhostname/traveler

Install Verification

To verify that the clients are available log into the Client Manager web administration interface and verify that the client version and build numbers for Nokia and WM clients are set as default.

Preventing download of a cient

For compatibility reasons, you can not delete the default level of client from the Notes Traveler server, but you can disable the ability to download the client. To disable a particular client download you need to set a notes.ini parameter. A complete set of configurable notes.ini parameters can be found in the Product Documentation.

To prevent download of Nokia Symbian client set this parameter:

NTS_SERVLET_ALLOW_CLIENT_INSTALL_NOKIA=false

To prevent download of Windows Mobile client set this parameter:

NTS_SERVLET_ALLOW_CLIENT_INSTALL_WM=false

Blocking a device type from syncing

To prevent a particular device type from syncing use the Restrict access by device category function.
